The prices below exclude shipping to West Africa but expect $2500 to $3500 depending on variables.
Lets start with the one you probably don’t know – The GWM Wingle 5 we present as a great value for money option.
GWM (Great Wall Motors) sold 230,000 pick ups in 2021 & for 20 years in a row are China’s biggest selling pick up brand with almost 50% of the market!
After a determined search for the best ‘value’ pick up we thought there were a number of choices. But after working with a major vehicle distributor experienced in these options they told us straight…… there is one clear leader in terms of build quality, reliability and engineering experience and it is the GWM. The Wingle model is designed with ISUZU so a lot of their body and frame with petrol version using a 2.4 litre Mitsubishi engine, and the diesel engine developed with Bosch and many critical parts incorporated by them. Many countries in West Africa already have GWM dealerships (listed on the Wingle’s links) but if not we can supply a spares pack and supply spares as needed ongoing. If you just need a reliable value for money 4WD pick up with diff lock for your team in Africa it is well worth considering.
The petrol option at $16,600 and the diesel option $17,600. (add $2500 to $3500 for delivery)
Would we buy one? – yes. Have a petrol version coming for our own project in Sierra Leone in 2024 (choosing petrol over diesel because of better reliability (few fuel issues), easy to service, plus we don’t have any heavy lifting to do).
The Toyota Hilux needs no introduction and we have these 4WD diesels currently at $25,000
The Mitsubishi L200 is a great vehicle and great value and having had many Mitsubishi vehicles on our own project – they are good. 4WD diesel is $21,800 and petrol $19,650
(again if buying one ourselves – all our petrol did outlast the diesels by a long margin and proved very reliable and that is why there is a petrol option here)

We have chosen to promote just one vehicle for now – their pick up – the JMC VEGUS.
Among all the vehicles we have seen – if you just need a value for money workhorse we think that this is a real contender.

Foton really stand out as the Chinese brand that seems to have had more than other Chinese brands and successfully trading in Australia, New Zealand, most of South America and Asia.
Surprisingly, they are not that Chinese actually…They use Cummins diesel engines, Getrag Ford make the transmissions, Borg Warner make the transfer case and Dana make the axles.
Owners find them good value for money and they will eventually become a worldwide and well-known brand supplying pick-ups, SUVs, mini buses, trucks, tractors and coaches.
Buy them new and they compare in price to many more well-known brands when second hand and come with a healthy guarantee.

Regarding commercial vehicles the procedure is slightly different by providing a final vetting (to the same standards) as part of the purchase procedure.
